Last week I was also pretty busy filling out applications for a few different clubs/organizations I want to join here. I took a pretty big leap of faith recently and can't wait to see what happens, but more on that later. Right now I'm just praying it all works out!
For now, I have a ton of photos to share with you all!
greek yogurt with frozen raspberries, nature's path vanilla almond qia cereal, and honey
salad with veg, chicken, sunflower seeds & basalmic
mushroom, spinach, & bacon omelet with potatoes (i <3 brunch!)
FINALLY got my hands on this baby! i actually found it at a random coffee shop and immediately scooped it up. there were tons of chunks of white chocolate, definitely one of my favorite quest bars so far!
pumpkin spice coffee (in the cutest kitty mug ever). my mom also sent me a bag of candy corn coffee that i got yesterday and that stuff is BOMB. my room smelled amazing.
another salad with veg, chicken, balsalmic, sunflower seeds
lunch on campus: roasted green beans, potatoes, and hand carved turkey with pesto
another salad and STEAK (!!) and potatoes. steak is like my favorite meal. ever. and we actually have pretty good steak here. it's awesome.
tart froyo with toasted coconut, almonds, and chocolate chips. did i mention my dining halls are amazing? no shortage on toppings here.
my usual preworkout fuel - a larabar and a crystal lite energy packet (it has caffeine in it).
southwest chicken caesar salad + extra chicken, & cantaloupe x2- pretty sure i ate like an entire cantaloupe, haha
greek yogurt with almonds, coconut, chocolate chips, and berries
Last week I did a ton of CrossFit WODs on my own - my box at home posts them on the blog and I was following them to the best of my abilities. But then the had a 'surprise' WOD week back at home where they didn't post any WODs online, so I headed on back to my IFT classes! Although they're slightly different than CrossFit (simply because we don't have all of the equipment all in one place like CrossFit boxes do), the workouts were still really tough this week. And I'm trying to make more of an effort to talk to people in the class and get to know them; I really miss the community back at home.
Anyways here's my workouts from this week!
Monday: 3-mile run before class
Tuesday: IFT Barbell
- Stretch & warmup with running, burpees, pushups, and broad jumps
- 1x10 @ 50%
- 1x7 @ 60%
- 3x5 @ 75%
- 2x3 @ 85%
- Jumping 'annie' style WOD
- 25 jumping squats + 25 situps
- 20 jumping squats + 20 pushups
- 15 jumping squats + 30 mountain climbers
- 10 jumping squats + 10 pullups
- 5 jumping squats + 5 burpees
- I used 53# on the jumping squats - I think I probably could have used a bit more but my instructor had told us to use just the bar or only 10s so I didn't want to increase my weight in case he had a reason for telling us to keep it at 10 lbs.
- After the WOD, I worked on my pull-ups (I think I did 20 or 25), did 3x3 bodyweight tricep dips, and rowed for 5 min.
Wednesday: I had planned on a 3 mile run before class, but slept late, so it turned into a rest day. Not a bad idea since I was sore from the deadlifts on Tuesday!
Thursday: IFT Barbell
- 5x1 clean and jerk complex at 75% of max (I used 93#)
- 1 full squat clean
- 1 hang clean
- 3 front squats
- 1 jerk
- 12 min AMRAP
- 20 KB overhead one arm lunge
- 20 toes to bar
- 20 KB overhead one arm lunge
- 20 push press
- for the KB lunges, I used 35# which was really challenging. on the push press I used 55#, rx was 65#. i got through 2 rounds + 20 lunges.
- my arms were DEAD after this. i need to majorly work on my grip strength!
20 minutes on the rower
4x5 bodyweight tricep dips
lots and lots of stretching - I was still sore from the WOD the day before!
One thing that I love about the kind of exercise I like to do is that even when the gym is busy, it's easy to get my stuff done. There is ALWAYS a rower open, even when every other cardio machine is full, and I haven't had to wait too long to use the Olympic lifting area. I wish I could scream at all of the girls waiting in line to use the elliptical that there's so many more fun things that they could be doing! I don't think that I could last more than 5 minutes on the elliptical these days without getting super bored.
my friends and i went to LACMA one night and took a bunch of pictures with the lights there - i'd never been and it's so pretty! we also went to the grove afterward and got sprinkles cupcakes. i got a german chocolate cupcake and it. was. bomb.
lots of attempting to get work done.
and never ever getting tired of waking up to this view. how incredible is that? every morning it looks like this and it makes getting up for my 8am and 9am classes that much more bearable.
oh & a shameless plug: check out the post i wrote for daily bruin mojo this week! it's 7 tips to start your year off on a healthy foot.
and that's all i've got for ya, folks - hope you've had a wonderful week!
any fun plans for the weekend? i'm headed to a maroon 5 & kelly clarkson concert with some of my best friends and couldn't be more excited! we bought our tickets back in may and i've been looking forward to it ever since!
